How to Live Your Values in All You Do (Even Pegaworld Conference Swag)

If you’ve been in business for any length of time, you’ve been to a conference or two. This year will be Rulesware’s 10th year at Pegaworld, Pegasystems’ annual users conference, bringing together leaders in business and technology to learn from each other about how to facilitate digital and business transformation.

Pegaworld 2018 promises to be better than ever, with success stories and insights from PayPal, Nissan, Verizon, Cisco, and more; a keynote by Pegasystems Founder and CEO Alan Trefler offering up clear examples of organizations who’s achieved real Digital Transformation results; deep dives into AI and Robotics; and of course, some chess on the side. Rulesware is a keen Platinum Sponsor again this year, too, and can’t wait to catch up with and learn from the Pega folks we know, as well as dear clients and colleagues.

We always have a booth. And we always like to offer a bit of swag: call it a friendly gesture of esteem for those who take the time to chat and swap knowledge. Last year it was Rubik’s cubes. A few years before, it was coffee mugs (still a sought-after item!). And oh yes, we’ve missed the mark, too: our CEO tells the story about unpacking MINISCULE little Moleskine notebooks from the boxes delivered to our booth one year … they were a fraction of the intended size, and far too small to be useful. Oops.

But 2018 feels different.

Public Thread believes in quality, customized work, and being real. And awesome.

The Story We Want to Tell at Pegaworld 2018 About Values

We’ve spent a lot of time this past year developing a clear set of organizational values, including collaboration, curiosity, courage, integrity and transparency. More importantly, we’ve made it our mission to live out those values in the way we approach our work, and treat our clients, teams, and partners.

So when preparing for Pegaworld 2018, we decided that we needed to tell a story about the kind of company we are, and what we believe in. We wanted to start a conversation about quality. And collaboration. And a genuine curiosity.

So exactly how do you do that … with swag?

Knowing that the small choices matter greatly, we were crystal clear that we didn’t want to order 2,000 manufactured-in-China fidget spinners that would likely find their way to the landfill far too quickly.

“We knew that this year at Pegaworld we wanted to highlight the quality of our work,” notes Emma Payne, Rulesware’s VP of Operations. “It’s there in everything we do, including in our relationships with clients and each other. Quality matters to us.”

The bottom line: no matter if we’re talking about relationships with one another, the work we do for clients, or the small tokens of gratitude we share with you, quality matters. Thought matters.

“So when I was looking through catalogues full of chargers and chapstick,” Payne says, “I was overtaken with the idea that we could do better. That we could use our money to do good and offer our clients and supporters a great takeaway item too. And that’s when when I came across this incredible little company called Public Thread, founded by Janay Brower, whose tagline is Justice Manufactured Here. What really caught me was that they are this little company in Michigan—one of the hardest hit areas of the country when it comes to manufacturing—and they are deeply committed to quality, and to people. They sounded a lot like us.”

Public Thread made our customized luggage tags from recycled leather in old belts.

Public Thread is a customized cut-and-sew manufacturer founded to help provide manufacturing jobs in Michigan. It’s about job creation in a small town that really needs it. And better still, it creates those jobs by creating beautiful, highest-quality, customized products, staying true to people, and to the environment.

Because one of our conference marketing messages is ‘Let’s Go Places: Quality Solutions Every Time,’ we discussed having Public Thread produce leather luggage tags, manufactured from recycled leather.

Our senior team loved the idea.

“Our focus on quality at Rulesware ensures success outcomes for our clients,” says David Bliss, Senior Director of Business Development. “Partners who are committed to the same principles like Public Thread are so important to our continued success.”

And … voila! Our customized luggage tags, cut out.

The bottom line: no matter if we’re talking about relationships with one another, the work we do for clients, or the small tokens of gratitude we share with you, quality matters. Thought matters.

The luggage tags are little recycled works of art. And we can’t wait to share them with you.

We’ll see you at Pegaworld — find us (and take home a luggage tag!) at Booth 11.

Please get in touch to find out more about Rulesware. We’re nice people. And pssst … we’re hiring.
