Rulesware Employee Profile: Suleman Qureshi, Senior Consultant

“We work as a family at Rulesware, and do work that we know is good for our clients.“

I didn’t have any Pega experience when I joined Rulesware in 2010.

I had been working for a large company, with many processes and layers that made it difficult to get things done. What I saw at Rulesware was the chance to be part of a much smaller company, where I could always approach and access our senior managers and technical talent.

I thought this would help me learn and advance quickly, and I was right.

I learned very quickly at Rulesware. I worked hard and took advantage of things like weekly technical talks where we’d work together with our senior team to solve our clients’ problems. If we came across something complex, we ccould always just reach out to our seniors and they would quickly help.

I believe that this easy access and open communication with everyone on the team is what makes us successful.

Within a year of starting at Rulesware I had already completed my Senior Systems Architect certification. This meant I could play more senior roles on client projects. In 2012 I was promoted to Senior Consultant at Rulesware, which was another great career move for me.

My favorite project at Rulesware was working with a health insurance provider in Hawaii.

At Rulesware we believe in Pega’s well-tested methodology, and are always happy to use it “as is” versus managing the many customizations and adaptations that some clients require.

This client was happy for us to implement Pega’s methodology cleanly, and this was one of the reasons that we were able to work complete their projects so quickly, and without any defects.

Our client couldn’t believe that we were able to deliver such quality work in 90-day sprints, but we did. An extra bonus was that Rulesware offered to fly my wife out for a holiday in Hawaii, which was great.

The other reason that we had such good success with this client, is that we worked hand-in-hand with our near-shore team in El Salvador.  I’ve worked with off-shore teams in completely different time zones in the past, and know how challenging this can be.  We would tell the team what we needed at the end of the day, but the next morning they would have delivered something completely different.

With our near-shore team in El Salvador it is completely different.  We are in the same time zone so can be on instant messaging all the time, working together to problem-solve.

We work as a family at Rulesware, and do work that we know is good for our clients.

The approach of everyone on our senior team,  is different from what I often see at other consulting companies, who sometimes do things just for the sake of doing them.

They will jump to code, without first spending time on process and design, and in the end this slows down delivery and impacts quality too.  I like our approach, where we spend more time on design in order to get the best product out the door. When we encounter these other firms, I am always proud to be on the Rulesware team, delivering higher quality work and better products than the other guys.

I like being able to get things done quickly, and really see things happening, and for me that is the best thing about working at Rulesware.
